Justice for Adrien !
The right to strike is recognized by the french constitution. During the national events against the LRU (law concerning a reform of the university) which took place last fall, some of the Sorbonne University students tried to use this right at the Clignancourt annex. They where confronted to the administration’s authority which had chosen to fuel the antagonism between the strikers and anti-strikers, letting violence and tensions growing by themselves in order to find a valid reason to bring the police into play.
On the November 19th at this same place, a group of strike-breaker students are premeditating an assault on the faculty. Using of strength they tried try to break violently into the building. During the assault, one individual from each part has been wounded. In order to force the pathway, strike-breakers threw at the students on strike chairs and tables that where used to build the picket line. After those acts of violence one of the assailants had his hand wounded. The so called victim took the decision to complain to the police.
After an “incredibely” fast investigation, using “unworthy methods from a state of right” (here we are using the proper words of Jean Robert Pitte , Sorbonne president, furipusly opposed to the strike and concerning the strike movement itself) Adrien was placed in custody on the December 14th for 27 hours long accused of assault and voluntary violence. He is indicted and his trial will be on January 29th 2008. In spite of the impossibility to connect with certainty his presence and the offence which he is accused of, Adrien who is known for his participation in this movement could pay for all the others to make an example. Therefore we know that Adrien is non-violent and that he never took part in physical confrontations. ++He might take on to 5 years of detention and might have to pay a fine of E 75.000.++We are then sending casting a call to:
- Sign the petition to stop the proceedings taking place against Adrien. The petition is available on line at http://blog.justicepouradrien.info
- Help our fund of solidarity. Adrien being as many other students who arein precarious situation, unable of affording a lawyer’s costs.
- Be present at his trial : all those wishing to express their solidarity toward Adrien to show him as to show the justice that he is not alone in this difficult moment and to come on the January 29th at the tribunal de grand instance de Paris (metro cite) at 9 AM.
